My "Inspirations" Journal

I needed a little journal to keep track of all my little "Craft Inspirations" and doodles.
I bought the book for $1 at Joanns. Then I just added a vinyl decal on the cover page. Nothing fancy, just simple!

I can't tell you how often I've used this to keep track of the random crafting ideas I get. In fact this doodle (which will later turn into a craft) was inspired at breakfast while I was at ihop looking at some of the wall decor. Weird...I know! But I just had to sketch the idea before my mommy brain forgot all about it!

I would love to see what you come up with!

Cover Button Kit Tutorial

You can purchase the Cover Button kit at Joanns for around 3 dollars.

They also have many different sizes to choose from.

In this tutorial I used the 3/4 " size.

(I should have used a bigger size for this flower though)

The kit will have a circle on the back of the package. You will need to cut it out. This will become the template for you fabric.

Place the template over your fabric and cut a fabric circle. (You may want to cut two fabric circles if your fabric has a little bit of sheer to it.)

Make sure you center your fabric over the mold. The fabric will need to be wrong side up.

Push the button shell firmly into the mold.

Tuck the extra fabric into the button shell.

Place the back over the tucked fabric. Press firmly with the pusher to snap it into place.

You're finished!!

My husband and I will be in Orlando for 2 days and we'd love to go to Disneyworld.

Fabric Ornaments

Small scraps of fabric torn into strips

Mod Podge

Foam Brush

Any round Ornament

1-Tear your fabric into long strips

2- Apply a generous amount of mod podge on your ornament.

(Any round ornament will do)

3-Quickly wrap the fabric around your ornament before the mod podge dries. If you need to you can apply it as you go.

*You can also do a final coat of mod podge over the fabric if you'd like to seal it. But it doesn't keep the soft fabric texture look.

Guymon Family "Christmas Pickle" Tradition

For those of you who didn't know, we actually live in North Pole. I promise, no joke! We live in North Pole, Alaska. It is a cute little Christmas town all year round. We even have candy cane light posts through the town.

With that said, we also have "The Santa Claus House" which is open nearly every day of the year. You can visit Santa and pick through the plethora of ornaments. We chose this fun pickle ornament here at the Santa Claus house.

WHY A PICKLE ORNAMENT?

The Legend Of The Pickle

"A pickle used as decoration on a Christmas Tree seems odd at first, but it is an old German tradition. It is customary to hide a pickle among the branches of the tree on Christmas Eve. The first child on Christmas Day to find the Christmas pickle receives an extra gift! The reason for the different sizes of the pickle is for the age of the children. The largest pickle is for the toddler. As children grow up the pickle gets smaller."

This is the kids Christmas tree. The pickle is in plain site right now, but come Christmas morning it will be hidden in the deep boughs of the tree!

Eye Spy Ornaments

1 large clear glass ornament

25 small trinkets (preferably Christmas related)

Rice

List of trinkets

Fill your ornament with small trinkets and rice. Put the topper/lid back on the ornament. Attach the trinket list with ribbon.

Update: Jill had a great suggestion to use the clear stuffing pellets

(the kind you stuff dolls, etc. with)

Guymon Tradition (#2)

First off...is it Wassil or Wassail?

Don't mind the spelling errors, I've seen it both ways!

3 1/2 c. sugar

2 qts. water

(Boil about 5 minutes and turn off heat.)

Put the next ingredients in a sack cloth, cheese cloth, or even a clean pair of nylons or knee highs! (This used to freak me out...still does...but it works!)

2 tsp. cinnamon

1 tsp. cloves

1 tsp. allspice

1 tsp. ginger

Soak the the spices (that are held my nylons, cheese clothe, etc.) into the water/sugar syrup for
1 1/2 hours.

Add:

4 qt. apple cider (pre-made)

2 qts. orange juice (pre-made)

juice of 4 lemons (or 1/2 can lemonade concentrate..not mixed with water)

Mom would leave a few slices of lemon and let them float. Heat and serve hot.

Christmas in my house growing up brings happy memories of mom making hot wassil, Grandma Gunnersons Ginger filled cookies, sugar pops, peanut brittle, toffee, caramel popcorn, and sugar cookies. What a happy childhood I had. My kids LOVE this tradition.

This makes A LOT! So be prepared to either half the recipe, serve at a holiday party, or share with your neighbors! Enjoy!

Salt Dough Ornaments

(Recipe from Sunday School Ideas)
*She has other great tips, hints and tricks on her website

1 c. salt
1 c. warm water
2 c. flour (use only plain all-purpose flour)

Combine flour and salt in a mixing bowl or kitchen aid. Slowly add ½ the water while stirring. Slowly add more water and continuing to mix and blend, until it creates a ball of dough that is firm and just soft enough to knead. (The exact amount of water will depend on the moisture content of the flour as well as the general humidity in your home as you prepare the recipe.) Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead until smooth. Use cookie cutters and other shaping materials to shape and cut out the dough. Use a straw or wiggle a paper clip into your dough to make a hole in the center for hanging.

"Bake at 250 to 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 1/2 to 3 hours. The lower the temperature the longer, but with the higher temperature you run the risk of browning. Of course, there’s no harm in browning them if you don’t mind the color, or if you are going to cover them completely with paint. "

Once they are out of the oven let them cool. I like to sand the edges a little with some sand paper. May sure you brush away all of the crumbs.

We like to use a glaze as a beautiful finishing touch to the ornament. Sculpy makes a shiny and matte finish glaze, or you can also use mod podge or a epoxy resin.

*Remember that the dough will begin to lose its ability to hold fine detail after about an hour.

**Every year our little family likes to handcraft and paint ornaments. We do everything from the sculpy clay ornaments, salt dough ornaments, cinnamon ornaments, to the little ceramic ones you can buy at the store. My children always look forward to it!

Todays Topic....Disney World!

Since I am so far removed from you lower 48 people (yes, that's what us Alaskan's call you !) I thought I'd ask a few of you fellow bloggers some advice about Disney World.

Our 12th year wedding anniversary is coming up and I thought it would be fun to go to Disneyworld since Disneyland is where we went on our honeymoon. My husband and I are going on a cruise in January and will be near Disney World. Since we live half way around the world, we figured we might as well go while we are there.

So my question is...is there such a thing as a good deal on Disney World tickets?
I am looking for any advice on where to find good deals on tickets and hotels near Disney world. We will be there in the middle of January.

I have a very guilty conscience about going and spending lots of money, so if I find a good deal then maybe I won't feel so bad! (I'm justifying this...can you tell?).

Can you help with any advice or tips?

(Mike and I on our honeymoon at Disneyland nearly 12 years ago....ohhhh...we look so young!
And yes...overalls WERE cool during that time! )

How To Make A Custom Desktop Background

1. Find out your screen size. If you are unsure, go to
http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/
and it will tell you your screen size.

2. In Photoshop, Gimp, or what ever other photo editing program you like to use..open a new file with the dimensions you were given above for your screen size.

3. Decorate with digital scrapbooking paper, or add photo/s to your new file.

4. Save the file to your computer.

5. Go to Control panel on your computer.

6. Underneath Appearance and Personalization you should see "Change desktop background", click on it.

7. Locate your picture by clicking on the "Browse" Button

8. Highlight your picture then click o.k.

Enjoy your new custom background!

*There are a lot of digital scrapbooking designers who will give away free monthly desktop backgrounds and you can personalize them by simply adding your own pictures.

Super Saturday Is Officially Over! Whew!

Somehow I find myself helping out with Super Saturday every year (hence the real name of my blog..."Everyday is a super Saturday". Sometimes I'm roped into it, sometimes I can't help but Volunteer. So here we are another year, another Super Saturday.

I have the people listed in my sidebar, but not necessarily linking directly to that post. Do YOU know why this is happening? Homemade Sweet Pea Costume

I made this for my daughter when she was a baby. Her nick name was "Princess Pea". We thought that it would make a cute costume. Way back when (7 years ago) I had a hard time finding any cute pea costumes so I decided to make one.

(I'm sure you can figure this out just by looking at it)

I just took a pair of "Carters" pajamas and undid the embroidered decal of the dinosaur on the front. Then I sewed the little "Peas" and stuffed them with batting, then sewed them to the pajamas. Next, I glued a piece of plastic Ivy to make it look like a pea vine. Then I just made the hat to match, and I added a little plastic Ivy to that.

Ribbon

DOWNLOAD Punkinhead Font HERE

Cut the wood into a 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" x 1 1/4" square. Sand the wood using a hand sander or sand paper. Dust off the wood. Paint the wood your desired color (I used 3 different orange variations). My blocks needed two coats of paint. Let dry.

Download and install the free Punkinhead font. Using your vinyl plotter cut out desired pumpkin faces making sure to fit the correct wood dimensions. If you don't have a vinyl plotter, cut out shapes on black construction paper.

Once your wood block is dry sand the edges and add antiquing ink. You can choose to spray with a shiny or matte finish clear spray. Let dry.

Once the wood is completely dry, add your vinyl (or paper).You can finish the block by adding a ribbon, tulle, or cut out a wooden stem and glue to the top.

Variations:
*Add scrapbooking paper to the wood using mod podge.
*Add glitter to your project for a sparkle you will LOVE!

*Coordinating Ribbon

*This is similar to what your image packet will look like. Simply cut images down to size to fit into the 2.55 x 3.35 badge holder. Because these have great quotes on the other side, I made sure to center the quotes when cutting.

*I also included a custom name picture on the front of my badge album. I just opened up a picture in Photoshop and placed my text on top, printed to size, then placed in the front cover.
Add all pictures to the holders. Once this is finished place the rings in pre-punched hole area.

*Tie your favorite ribbon around the rings.

Sunday Snack Bar

Buy a craft container from walmart/joanns, etc ($1-3). You can also buy small plastic fishing tackle boxes from your local hardware store.
Fill each empty space with small finger foods for your child (age appropriate of course)

-Chocolate Chips
-Little Fishy Crackers
-Mini Marshmallows
-Raisins
-Fruit Snacks
-All kinds of cereal (cheerios, kix, lucky charms,)
-Peanuts
-Craisins
-Small Crackers

*This really helps my two year old quiet down in church. He loves the variety of snacks to choose from. Life saver...seriously!

*My container is actually "Child proof" so he can't get into it all by himself. It's also nice because it won't spill in his diaper bag. You just need to push in the button on the side while opening the container.

Make A Placemat Apron

My daughter and I enjoyed this simple "Placemat Apron" tutorial from somewhat simple.
We finished the whole project in just under 10 minutes.
What a good way to free cycle those old things!

Nutter Butter Ghosts

Version #1

12 ounces of white candy coating, white chocolate or vanilla bark

1 package of nutter butter peanut butter cookies

1 small package of mini chocolate chips or mini m & m's

Make sure you are prepared and have everything on hand!

Set out either a sheet of waxed paper or cooking    parchment paper on the table.
Melt the bark according to the instructions on the package.
Dip the nutter butter cookies into the melted bark until    the cookies are completely white. 
Lay the dipped cookie on the paper.
Get two mini choco. chips or mini m&m's and place them as eyes.
Let the candy covered cookies harden.
Remove from paper and put into a bowl or arrange on a    plate. Cover tightly    until ready to serve.

Version #2
(this is what I used)1 pkg. Nutter Butter peanut butter cookies
white chocolate or white chocolate almond bark
Pre-made Frosting (store bought or homemade)
mini chocolate chips
Instructions:  
Heat white chocolate/almond bark in a double broiler until it's melted. Pour melted white chocolate into the frosting and whip on high until well blended. Frost the nutter butter with the white chocolate frosting mixture. Add chocolate chips for the eyes. Enjoy!

Make your OWN story board

Start out by picking your favorite frame. Or...maybe you have a REALLY sweet husband like mine who will MAKE a customized one for you! I knew what size I wanted so I gave my hubby the dimensions, and he went right to work.

Measure the inside dimensions of the frame where the picture will lay.

Using your favorite photo editing program (PSE, Photoshop, Gimp Etc.) you'll begin to make your own story board. Or, you can go to the Coffee Tea Photography blog and download one of her MANY free storyboard templates & Actions HERE. If you'd like to make your own custom storyboard you can read a great tutorial HERE on how to make your own clipping mask. I opened up a new file and set my dimensions to match the inside of my frame which was 8" x 20". Then I made my own clipping masks, and added my pictures to the masks. Add the perfect personalized touch by including a favorite quote or family motto.

We have a local Sams club that prints large prints in under an hour. I noticed they had a

16" x 20" poster size for under $6. So I reopened my print I did in Photoshop and instead of a

8" x 20" I made two prints to fit a 16" x 20". (see picture below)

This is what the print looked like when I got it back from Sams.

Then I cut it into two prints. One for me, and one for the hubby's office! Next we cut the glass to fit the frame. Then added my pict, and backing of the frame. Ready to go!

Just showing another example of what you can do. Get inspired by other storyboard layouts by googling them. There are some really cute ideas out there!

Lil' Buck-A-Roo Bib

1 Washcloth

1 bandana ANY color (they have some FUN colors now days!)

*Pre-wash & Iron Bandana a head of time*

1- Cut your bandana in half (diagonally) to make two triangles.

2- Roll hem the cut edge.
3-Lay out your wash cloth.

4-Center the bandana point side down on the washcloth.

5-Sew the triangle area where it overlaps.

Simply tie the bib around the babies (or toddler) neck.

My mom and dad bought a bib similar to this for our oldest son. We absolutely LOVED it! It makes a wonderful baby gift... especially with all the fun bandana prints and colors out there! PLUS....you can make 2 bibs out of 1 bandana. Wahoo!

EASY Frilly Baby Legs Tutorial

Buy a long pair of socks or knee-highs
(I bought these Halloween socks at Joanns for $2.99)

Cut off the foot

Sew a tight zig zag stitch agaist the edge of the sock. Stretch your sock as you sew, to make sure your stitches stay close together.

They will automatically ruffle! Easy Peasy!

The Color Hex Code..plus a Digi Scrap Freebie

What is a Color Hex Code you ask? The definition is:
"Web colors are colors used in designing web pages, and the methods for describing and specifying those colors"

You can use a hex code in digital scrapbooking, blogging, web design, etc.

For example...pretend you like a specific color of shirt your daughter is wearing in a picture and you want that exact color used as your blogger font. Use one of the color generators to get the hex code. Then plug in the numbers.
To edit the color your fonts go to:
Customize.....Layout....Fonts/Colors....then plug in your new customized Hex #'s (see example below)
You can also use your Eye Dropper tool in PSE and click on the part of the picture that you'd like to get the hex code from. Then Click on the lower lefthand corner where the foreground color is. The this color box below will appear and you can copy the hex code from there.

DIY Initial Frame

11" x 14" frame
(bought from Walmart for about $3.00)
Bead Board
(bought a LARGE piece from Home Depot, I think it was about $12-14, I can't remember, but this can make TONS)
Initial Letter
(Bought at Roberts Crafts while I was in Utah for about $5)
Ivory Spray Paint
(bought at Home Depot $3)
Old English Scratch Cover For Dark Wood
(bought at walmart by the dusting/cleaning supplies. I think it was about $5)
Rag
(one that you won't care if it gets stained)
Sand Paper
Clear Matte Spray Paint (Optional)

(Most of the stuff we already had on hand, I'm just giving you the price when we bought it)

1- Take out the picture frame glass (find another crafty use for your glass).
2- Trace the piece of glass with a pencil on the back side of the Bead Board.
3- Cut out the bead board with a saw (we used our Miter Saw).
4- Spray paint your bead board with the ivory spray paint (or what ever color you want).
5- While you're waiting fort the spray paint to dry, lightly (or Heavily) distress the outside of the picture frame with your sandpaper.
6- Once the bead board is dry, add a few drops of the Old English liquid on a rag. Spread the stain in between the lines of the bead board. Smudge or lightly wipe the stain according to your taste.
7- You can spray a can of matte sealer to seal in the stain on the bead board if you'd like
8- Glue (gorilla glue, wood glue), nail, or staple gun the Initial to the Bead Board.
(I used a variety of glues to hold it together, gorilla, hot glue, and wood glue, just to make sure it would stay)
9- Place the Bead Board inside the picture frame. Fold down the hardware on the back of the frame to hold into place.
10- Sit back and enjoy your new masterpiece!

* For a different look, you can also Mod Podge fabric or scrap booking paper to the letter before gluing

Glitter Toes

I *LoVe* Glittery Goodness!

Items Needed:
Glitter
Clear Top Coat
Colored Base Coat
Wax Paper

If you want to spice up those nails here's what you do

1- Paint a base coat that will coordinate well with the glitter.

2- While the paint is still wet generously sprinkle glitter on each nail and make sure it's totally covered. It's important to have a piece of wax or parchment paper underneath so that the excess glitter can be saved and/or reused. Shake your foot a few times to get any extra glitter off, or
you can also brush off some of the extra glitter with a small paint brush (because you WILL have glitter on the sides of your toes).

3- Paint a clear top coat over the top of the glitter to help seal it and to give it a little extra sparkle.

Additional Tips:
I used the Martha Stewart Gemstone Glitter Set that I bought at Walmart. It had a large variety of glitter to choose from.

Glitter on the outside of your toes is perfectly NORMAL. Just wait until the top coat dries, then wash off the excess.

I added another top coat the next morning just to make sure everything was sealed in.

Giant Bubbles Recipe

Every year my moms side of the family gets together for a family reunion (usually held in Lava Hot Springs, ID). One of the fabulous activities for the children this year was a big tub of bubbles. She said it was a hit! Jadi also has this posted on her craft blog (also a cousin).

1 gallon water
1 c. Dawn dishwashing soap
1/2 c. light corn syrup

Mix ingredients together slowly in a large plastic storage tote.
Dip plastic hangers in the bubble solution to make the bubbles (the hangers are used as wands). We used the small childrens plastic hangers, but we also had a few large adult plastic hangers. This was the perfect amount of solution for my three kiddo's, but when the neighbors saw how much fun we were having we ended up making more. You might as well double the recipe because they're too much fun! (You should have seen me and my husband).

Fabric Flowers

Materials:

Fabric (Can use coordinating fabrics)

(about 42" strip x 1 1/4" wide)

Needle & Thread OR Sewing Machine

Felt

Alligator Clip

Glue Gun

Topper:
Small clear glass marble (flat on one side), modge podge, & paper
or

Button

Fabric Covered Button

1.-Cut your strips of fabric to desired size

(I cut mine different sizes so I could layer them).

*tip: have fun and play around with various widths and lengths

2.- Hand stitch or sew along one edge of the fabric.

(If you are machine sewing do a loose basting stitch)

3. Once you have finished stitching, slowly pull the thread and the ribbon will begin pleating forming your flower.

(If doing this with a sewing machine, test which thread will give more easily by pulling on both pieces. Which ever string you can pull easier will be the one to use, be careful not to pull too hard, or else you'll have a broken string...boo.)

4. Start forming your flower/s and stitching in place.
(If you have more then 1 flower, glue gun them one on top on another, then stitch into place)

5-If making a glass marble, brush modge podge on the back of the marble, and glue onto your paper. Then cut off excess paper from the marble. Let dry. Then hot glue marble to fabric.

If using a button, either hot glue or stitch button to flower.

6.-Hot glue a piece of felt to the alligator clip. Then add more hot glue to the bottom of the alligator clip and fabric, then glue to the bottom of the flower.

(Hopefully you can understand this)

I don't know about you, but I don't know much about photography, at least in manual mode that is. I think I've got the point and shoot down pretty well! But did you know that you can doctor up your photo's at home for free? What is an action you ask? Well...I guess the best way to describe it is that you can basically press "Play" and the action will perform the steps for you, or it will tell you the changes you need to manually make. It's awesome! I'm not going to lie, it may take you a few times to get it down, but for the most part it's simple.

In nearly every ward I've lived in we were fortunate to have a recipe club. Some more often then others...but still it always gave me something to look forward to. Food, Friends, Fun...who could ask for more?

1-) Start with a host

2-) Let the host determine the food theme (BBQ, DESSERTS, Salads, Mexican, etc.)

You can get really creative here!

3-) The host will send an invite to guests

Remind guests to bring a copy of he recipe of the dish for each guest...or have a designated "Recipe Collector" who can gather the recipe, type, and distribute recipes.

4-)Usually the host is in charge of any decorations, drinks, and paper products (plates, utensils, cups etc).

I think I must have a SERIOUS food addiction because of how excited I am when it comes time to recipe club. I get overly excited to see the different recipes the girls bring. So many times I feel we cook the same things over and over, or use the same ingredients. So this lets me venture out into other food possibilities. Yum!

How to Use a Template in PS Elements

Have you ever used a template? If not...I will teach you!!! I swear these are the best things invented in digital scrapbooking. It takes the guess work out of trying to figure out a layout (the most time consuming part for me!). It's already done for you. Basically, to use a template, you can fill the grayscale shapes with digital papers, pictures, edit or replace elements and add embellishments, and edit or add text or word art.

DOWNLOAD MY FREE TEMPLATE HERE

FIRST STEP: Open the template, papers, pictures, and embellishments you want to use in Photoshop Elements.

SECOND STEP: Make the template layer active in your workspace. You're going to want to duplicate the template to avoid ruining the original file. To do this, simply go to the FILE menu, and select DUPLICATE. Are you with me? Good..let's continue!

THIRD STEP: I personally like to start with my pictures first. You can do papers first if you'd like. Simply drag and drop them onto your template layer. You will be able to see them show up on the sidebar

FOURTH STEP: Simply place the pictures ABOVE the shape you would like to merge.

(look at sample below)

FIFTH STEP: Once you position your pictures/papers ABOVE the shape you'd like to merge, press ctrl G. Pressing ctrl g will merge the paper to the shape below. This technical term is called a "Clipping Group".

SIXTH STEP: You may re-size or move the image after pressing ctrl g to make sure everything is seen in the picture in that particular shape layer.

SEVENTH STEP: Continue adding and merging all papers and pictures. (See Below)

Eighth Step: Once you have finished clipping all papers and pictures, go through all the layers and find each layer that says "Delete Me". Delete them all. (See Below) (Not all templates have the layer that says "Delete Me". So just go though and delete all wording that you don't want on your page).
Ninth Step: Add any text titles, wording, dates, journaling, or word art you would like to apply.
Tenth Step: Add any embellishments, brads, clips, etc.

Eleventh Step: Go to LAYER then to MERGE VISIBLE. (Or shift+ ctrl+ e) This will merge all of your layers together. After you merge layers, you won't be able to edit your text or photo layers, so make sure that your beautiful masterpiece is finished before merging!

(I know this isn't anything fancy, but hopefully it'll help you learn a little more about templates and how to use them! Enjoy, and good luck!)

Have you seen these lately? I've absolutely fallen in love with them! I've been on a quest to figure out how to make these. Thank goodness I found a link to Sugardoodle where Melinda shared an awesome tutorial with all of us. She also included a few youtube videos, and where to purchase the items.

My sisters and I were going to purchase one of these necklaces with all of the Grandchildrens names on the washers (we have some VERY unique names) for my mom for Mother's Day. Supplies:

Wood Cutout

Modge Podge

Scissors

Glue Gun

Safety plugs

Antiquing/Distressing Ink

Scrapbooking Paper

Paint & Sponge Brush

Sandpaper

You can buy pre-cut wood shapes or cut your own. Sand the wood until smooth. Paint the sides and the back of the wood (You may need a couple of layers of paint). In the meantime, trace the wood cutout onto scrapbooking paper. Cut out the shape on the scrapbooking paper. If your paint is completely dry, "paint" the modge podge on the front of the wood cut out. Quickly add the pre-cut scrapbooking paper. Once the modge podge is dry (make sure you smooth out any air bubbles). Add a few layers of modge podge on top of the scrapbooking paper. Let it dry completely. Sand any edges that you would like to give a distressed look to. Add the distressing ink around the edges of the sanded wood.

I found it easiest to plug the safety plug in first then add the wood because you can position the plug on the wood however you want. (you can decide if you want the safety plug up high, centered, or on the lower part of the wood.) Then with your hot glue gun, add the glue to the part of the safety plug that will be glued to the wood cutout. The add your wood cutout. Let it dry before removing from the outlet.

Sweet Brown Shuga Scrub

We had a wonderful family spa day. We took turns massaging each others hands and feet. Ooooh heaven! What a perfect valentines day treat!

I purchased the glass jar from walmart (1.50), then I added some vinyl lettering X & O's around the jar. And I made a sticker topper in Photoshop using a digital scrapbooking kit, and I printed it out on sticker paper. Woot Woot, easy project!

*1 cup brown sugar

*1/8-1/2 cup oil
(depending on the texture you like. I only used about 1/8)
You can use almond, grapeseed, hazelnut, coconut, canola, anything non-allergenic.

*smidge Essential oil (10 drops or less)
(I used lavender,but you could use tea tree oil, vanilla etc.) Use whatever you like as long as it is not contraindicated, or won't harm your skin).
You can skip this step if you wish, it's simply added for the aroma!

*Optional: You can also use a little bit of Vitamin E oil
(It's great for skin nourishment). You can just cut open a few of the Vitamin Oil capsules and let the oil drip into mixture)

Combine the sugar and the oils in a bowl. Mix with your hands until blended. Put in a jar with a lid.

TIP: In the summer,you can keep it in the fridge. The coolness will feel extra good.

How to make a Button with a Scroll Box for your blog

I'm sure there are many ways to do this, but these are the instructions I use to make my button.

My Vinyl lettering button example:

1.- Create your button picture using Photoshop, PSE, or Gimp. To begin....Go to FILE, then NEW, then BLANK FILE. Then make a 12" x 12" INCH (not pixel) 300 Resolution (Pixels/inch) (300 is maximum I would go, but web standard is 72) Color Mode: RGB Color Background Contents: Transparent.
Decorate your button with pictures or your logo. Make sure to include the title of your blog.
Don't make it too busy or too many words, because it may be hard to read. (We are going to re size your 12 x 12 to 150 x 150 pixels later on, so keep this in mind.)
Once you have your layout and design, merge the layers in your layers palette. (You can do this by going to LAYERS then MERGE LAYERS). Re size your image by going to IMAGE then RESIZE then IMAGE SIZE. Set the new numbers to 150 pixels x 150 pixels. Your image will be extremely small and hard to see. Use the magnifier a few times to see it a little larger. Then save your image as a PNG image.

2.-Log into your photobucket account. Upload your new png image. Copy the DIRECT LINK.

3.-Now we are going to create the HTML code (don't get too scared now!).
Copy the following code below and replace yourblogURL with your blog's URL (for mine, I would do... http://www.offthewallcreations.biz/) , basically this is where your blog address is and don't forget to include the http:// part or it may not end up working) and yourimagedirectlinkURL (this is where you'll put the "Direct link" from your photobucket account, so for example mine would be...http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/pp105/pinkigloodesigns/OTWCbutton.png)(the quotation marks are necessary).

4.- Now we are going to place your button in the side bar of your blog. In your blog, choose Layout or Customize and in the sidebar, click Add a gadget and choose HTML/Javascript. In the title area, you can write whatever you'd like--Take a Button, Grab my Button, or you can leave it blank--whatever you want. Then in the HTML box, post your HTML from the previous step. Save it and preview your blog to make sure your button shows up on the sidebar and that the button takes you to your blog. Make sure when you hover over you new button image it shows your blog address near the bottom of the page.

Twirly Skirts

As many of you know I am not much of a seamstress. And when the lack of talent isn't present, I strive even harder to conquer the task! Therefore, I couldn't just make 1 twirly skirt, I had to make 9 (Just to make sure I have it down!). (Actually they were Christmas presents for the cousins on the Briggs side.)

House On Road Hill has a fabulous tutorial on how to make them. No pattern required! If I can make them, so can you!

Where have I been?

Holy smokes am I behind!! I've had such great intentions of posting all the fun crafts I've been doing, but I haven't had the time.
I am currently working on a request of headbands, bows and such! I'm nearly finished and it'll be posted soon. But as for now, check out a few of my latest projects I've been doing (for my craft class).

Addi & I saw a project similar to this on Martha Stewart, so we took time to make Addi her own "Smelly Doll" named Rosabelle. If you would like the instructions (they don't have the doll template, you'll have to make your own) you can find them HERE.

However Addi and I added an extra special touch to make her a doll that smelled good. So we added a touch of laundry detergent (gain) and a dryer sheet inside the doll along with the polyfill. This is the finished product!

(Don't mind Addi's little Kool-Aid moustache, we think it's permanent!)

And these are the crafts I have been working on for a craft class this weekend at my house. A personal super saturday of sorts!

A closer look

Lori, here is a closer look at the dividers in my recipe box. To answer your question about the purpose of the ribbon...well, it's simply just decorative, no real purpose!!
I bought the alphabetical dividers for index cards at walmart, and I glued scrapbooking paper over them. I added some embellishments, and stapled ribbon to the top.

I want to let you in on a little fun craft!

***Purchased paper mache letters from Joanns.
***Purchased clear finishing spray paint from home depot.
***Purchased large shaker of gold glitter from Walmart.

1-In a well ventilated area spread the letters across newspaper (make sure you get two different sets of newspaper laid out). (I laid my letters down facing up.)
2- Spray the clear finishing spray over the tops of the letters. Quickly lay the letters down on the second piece of newspaper and GENEROUSLY sprinkle glitter all over the top of the letter.
3-Shake off the excess glitter and pour it back into the glitter container.
4-Let it dry for about 10 minutes.
5-Move the letters to the first piece of newspaper (which may be a little sticky from the spray)
6-Lay the letters on their sides and repeat the process until all of the letters are smothered in glitter!
Enjoy!!

*BTW-Martha Stewart has come out with some FUN colored glitter you may want to try. It can be purchased at Walmart.

DIY Fall Tile Board

Hopefully you're all ready for fall! Here's a fun little DIY fall project.

30" x 6" pre-cut board *Optional: 1" allowable routed edge

Spray paint (we used "Espresso" satin finish made by Rust-oleum Painters Touch from Home Depot)

6 4 x 4 white tiles

Mod Podge (deco-podge)

Sponge brush

60 Grit Sandpaper

Optional: Brayer (small roller used for wallpapering)

Industrial Strength Glue (E6000, works well and can be found at hardware or craft stores)

(2) white cardstock

1.) Cut, route, sand, and dust a 30" x 6" board. Paint the board your desired color. Let dry overnight.

2.) If you get glossy tile, lightly sand it to take a little of the finish off. Your paper will adhere better.

3.) Download and print the decals and FALL letters onto white cardstock. Cut out each letter and decal. An actual size of a 4 x 4 tile is 4.25 x 4.25 and each letter and decal I made is a 4 x 4, so it won't fill the tile. Apply a thin coat of Mod podge. Brush it evenly in one direction. With clean hands, carefully center the paper on the tile. It doesn't dry immediately, so you have a little time to adjust accordingly. Position your photo and press down firmly. Use the brayer (mini roller) to smooth out the photo and remove any bubbles, or lightly press until all bubbles are removed. Let it dry for about 30 minutes.

4.) Spread an even thin layer of Mod podge on top of the tile (over the picture). Brush it all in one direction. Wait about 15 minutes to dry. Brush a second coat of Mod Podge. Let it dry for a few hours.

5.) Lay your tiles across the wood board before gluing them down. Space accordingly. Take the tile one at a time and spread glue across the back of the tile. Press the tile to the board in the desired spot.

6.)Let dry over night
